Kazushi Watanabe

Born in 1976, Kazushi Watanabe directed, wrote and acted in his first film “19”at the age of 23, winning the agnès b prize at the Sarajevo International Film Festival. The film was subsequently screened throughout the world with the support of agnès b. Kazushi Watanabe has also received acclaim as an actor, appearing in director Takashi Miike’s “Visitor Q”and director Shuutaro Oku’s “Cain’s Descendant” which was entered at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival.

“the CAPTAIN TOKIO” Incorporating the dramatic techniques of animation and comic books which are the pride and cutting edge of Japanese culture, this is a film about youth done in an academic and deeply Japanese style.The messages in this film together comprise a love letter from Kazushi Watanabe to movie fans everywhere.
